Coastwatch Redcar receive the Kings Award for Voluntary Services….And the Mayor’s Community Award!

John Finlay (Coastwatch & Rotary Club), Stan Whalley (Coastwatch), myself, Redcar & Cleveland Mayor Cllr. Malcolm Head, Lord Lieutenant Jo Ropner, Trevor Smith (Coastwatch), Keith Stockdale (Coastwatch) Ronnie Brown (Nominator) Tim Foley (Coastwatch) Simon Mawson (Coastwatch & Rotary)

Today, I spent a fabulous afternoon with Coastwatch Redcar who received the Kings Award for Voluntary Services from the Lord Lieutenant Jo Ropner (Centre).

This award is the equivalent of an MBE which they receive for their charitable service which protects and saves lives and supports the RNLI along our coastline.

On behalf of Coastwatch Redcar, Chairman Simon Mawson receives the Kings Award from the Lord Lieutenant Jo Ropner

I first wrote about Coastwatch in 2021 following a request for support with more visibility coverage across Redcar’s seafront. This I recall, was going to become more problematic with the rebuild of the Regent Cinema. https://diaryofacouncillor.com/2021/05/20/meet-coastwatch-redcar/

I have recently also nominated them for the Mayor’s Community Awards for 2024.

Coastwatch Redcar is associated with the Sea Safety Group with stations right along the East Coast and is operational 7 days per week, 365 days a year with a team of dedicated voluntary watch keepers and trustees.

Their dedication to this vital role in safeguarding our beautiful yet challenging seafront cannot be overstated. These selfless individuals not only offer immediate assistance to those in distress but also play a crucial role in monitoring shipping vessels, reporting environmental concerns and alerting the authorities to suspicious and activities of concern. Their unwavering dedication deserves recognition and commendation.

Congratulations to you all and to all your volunteers and thank you for all that you do.

Thank you also to Ronnie Brown who invited me to support his nomination, to the Mayor Cllr. Malcolm Head for hosting this event and to the Rotary Club (John Finlay) for their continued support with all things Redcar.
